The Role:
To work within a team of engineers responsible for the series development of a range of engines. Ensure that a robust specification and design are released in time to support SOP timings and that it satisfies the product PDS.
To be achieved via:
● Prioritise workload to ensure the requirements of the NPI process are achieved for new product introductions.
● Guide and instruct the selected test facility personnel in order to improve the engine design through test techniques.
● Provide Senior Managers with status reports.
● Responsibility for Petrol and Diesel Engine Development activities on identified projects.
● Use of MS Project to track timing against the overall Project plan. Highlight any deviation from plan at the earliest opportunity and instigate recovery plans.
● Contribute to Design activities including FMECAs at the appropriate time so that the output can be used to derive the test plan.
● Ensure all development and test activities are appropriately reported and documented.
● Work within an ISO9001 framework.
● Contribute the test and development input to any Product Enquiry Proposal.
● The team is expected to maintain a presence in China as the programme dictates, this will mean regular visits of up to 5 weeks duration.
● Training and education of junior engineers in all aspects of functional and durability testing, development, fault finding, process and test technique development.
● Ensure that the team has the right ‘tools’ to do the job.
● For any contract hire/outsource work prepare “request for quote”. On receipt of quotes evaluate content and prepare a business case for submission to the approval body.
The Person:
The following attributes are required:
● Significant experience in Petrol and Diesel engines.
● Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering.
● Familiar with Engine testing techniques and facilities, able to construct a Product Validation plan from scratch.
● Problem investigation and fault analysis skills.
● Prepared to challenge the ‘status quo’ through an inquisitive nature.
● Attention to detail and good communication skills.
● Ability to plan activities through continually changing priorities whilst recognising the wider business need.
● Supplier interface skills.
● A team player.
● Patient and diplomatic.
● Aware of and able to adapt to different cultures.
● Enthusiastic, self motivated and determined to succeed.
● Full driving licence.
● Flexible and prepared to work overseas as the business need dictates.
