Design Engineer – Exhaust Systems

Job Status:
Contract (rolling 3 month contracts) but will consider permanent opportunities.

Function:
Diesel Exhaust Design

The Role:

• Designer with current Catia V5 experience for Exhaust systems (Gasoline and Diesel) working within Powertrain Integration.
  
• Reporting to the Powertrain Intake and Exhaust Principal Engineer for all design activities to meet system and vehicle requirements.
  
• Able to develop existing Exhaust system concepts and provide design direction on new concepts where necessary. (Knowledge of Diesel systems essential – DPF’s, SCR/LNT, future technologies and emissions).
  
• Support the delivery team with commercial and technical input in China sourcing activities.
  
• Provide technical status reports, plans and issues to the Intake and Exhaust Principal Engineer and externally to the vehicle project team as required.
  
• Work within the group programme timing and support any necessary Exhaust milestones as required.
  
• To coach/train Chinese engineers providing guidance of design techniques.
  
• Support with Technical advice and support.
  

To be achieved via:

• Supporting the design and project team for all Powertrain Exhaust requirements.
  
• Contribute to design activities for Powertrain systems using Catia V5 and Teamcentre PDM.
  
• Provide the Intake and Exhaust Principal Engineer and Integration Director with technical status reports as required.
  
• Assist in competitor benchmarking activities.
  
• Representing the Exhaust department at package and styling reviews.
  
• Prioritising workloads to ensure department requirements are achieved.
  
• Work with the department & vehicle project teams to ensure design activities completed at the right time for effective product delivery.
  
• Ensure all data and designs are appropriately documented and reported.
  
• Assist in Supplier liaison and Supplier technical development activities.
  

The Person:
The following attributes are required:

• Significant Exhaust technical experience - at least 1 full product cycle preferable in Exhaust systems (Diesel knowledge essential)
  
• Ability to correctly interpret 1D and 3D analysis results and provide appropriate design direction
  
• Ability to operate in a foreign environment where patience & understanding will support target delivery
  
• An awareness of multi cultural teams (International experience advantageous)
  
• Working knowledge of the complete Powertrain and sub-systems
  
• Good working knowledge of Base Engine function
  
• Minimum HNC or equivalent in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
  
• Robust capability of Catia V5 CAD software (Teamcentre PDM Advantageous)
  
• Excellent IT skills & experience of appropriate software applications (MS office etc.)
  
• Good working knowledge of engineering processes and process change (manufacturing, finance, purchasing etc.)
  
• Ability to interpret and analyse results using spreadsheets /databases
  
• Good communication skills, able to interact at all levels of the organisation with good interpersonal skills
  
• Ability to plan activities through continually changing priorities
  
• Enthusiastic, self motivated, patient, determined and able to deliver with the minimum of supervision
  
• Full driving licence
  
• Prepared to spend time overseas for business trips to China as required
  
• Flexible, committed and motivated to deliver in all circumstances especially within a small team environment
  
• Demonstrable business acumen & awareness
  
• Experience of Supplier management & negotiation
  
• Good organisational & prioritisation skills and time management abilities
  

Hours:
40 hours per week

Salary/Rate:
Up to £28/hr Ltd Co
