Function:
Exhaust and Intake Design and Analysis

The Role:

• Designer with current Catia V5 experience, development and CAE experience (1D and 3D Analysis) for Intake and Exhaust systems working within Powertrain Integration.
  
• Reporting to the Intake and Exhaust Principal Engineer for all design and development activity to meet system and vehicle requirements.
  
• Able to develop existing Intake and Exhaust system concepts and provide design direction on new concepts through analysis and sound engineering.
  
• Able to utilise 1D and 3D analysis tools to simulate the correct boundary conditions required to meet given performance / NVH targets and make robust design recommendations based on the results.
  
• Provide technical status reports, plans and issues to the Intake and Exhaust Principal Engineer and externally to the vehicle project team as required.
  
• Support the delivery team with commercial and technical input in China sourcing activities.
  
• Work within the group programme timing and support any necessary Intake and Exhaust related Test and Validation activity both domestically and overseas.
  
• To coach/train Chinese engineers providing technical advice in order to resolve issues.
  
• Support with Technical advice and support.
  

To be achieved via:

• Supporting the design and project team for all Powertrain Intake and Exhaust CAE requirements.
  
• Contribute to design activities for Powertrain Intake and Exhaust systems using Catia V5 and Teamcentre PDM and relevant CAE software.
  
• Contribute to development activities for in vehicle Powertrain Intake and Exhaust systems.
  
• Provide the Intake and Exhaust Principal Engineer and Integration Director with technical status reports as required.
  
• Assist in competitor benchmarking activities.
  
• Ensure that the correct predictive / test resources are used at the appropriate time.
  
• Ensure that the team have the right 'tools' to do the job (CAE software etc).
  
• Prioritising workloads to ensure department requirements are achieved.
  
• Work with the department & vehicle project teams to ensure test plans reflect the correct levels of resource, and the right facilities are available at the right time for effective product delivery.
  
• Ensure all data and testing are appropriately documented and reported.
  
• Develop the use of new technologies and test techniques within the department.
  
• Assist in Supplier liaison and Supplier technical development activities.
  
• Support in market system assessment and development as necessary to ensure the Powertrain Intake and Exhaust systems are optimised.
  

The Person:
The following attributes are required:

• Significant Intake and Exhaust technical and CAE experience - at least 1 full product cycle in either Intake or Exhaust systems with associated CAE development activity.
  
• Ability to correctly develop, carry out and interpret 1D and 3D analysis results and provide appropriate design direction.
  
• Ability to operate in a foreign environment where patience & understanding will support target delivery.
  
• An awareness of multi cultural teams (International experience advantageous).
  
• Working knowledge of the complete Powertrain and sub-systems.
  
• Good working knowledge of Base Engine function.
  
• Robust capability of Catia V5 CAD software (Teamcentre PDM Advantageous) + relevant CAE 1D/3D packages.
  
• Excellent IT skills & experience of appropriate software applications (MS office etc.)
  
• Good working knowledge of engineering processes and process change (manufacturing, finance, purchasing etc.)
  
• Minimum HND or equivalent in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  
• Structured approach to problem solving.
  
• Ability to interpret and analyse results using spreadsheets /databases.
  
• Technical report writing skill.
  
• Good communication skills, able to interact at all levels of the organisation through good interpersonal skills.
  
• Ability to plan activities through continually changing priorities.
  
• Enthusiastic, self motivated, patient, determined and able to deliver with the minimum of supervision.
  
• Full driving licence.
  
• Prepared to spend time overseas for business trips to China as required.
  
• Flexible, committed and motivated to deliver in all circumstances especially within a small team environment.
  
• Experience of Supplier management & negotiation.
  
• Good organisational & prioritisation skills and time management abilities.
  

Hours:
40 hours per week

Salary/Rate:
Up to £28/hr Ltd Co
