The Role:
- Responsible for all Supply Chain activities as it relates to the production of products, related parts and accessories.
- In consultation with the Plant Manager, the Materials function is responsible for developing a production plan from order and forecast data, triggers and responds to MRP, activates and manages the supply of component parts and raw material for production, tracks and manages inventory positions, assures proper and desired inventory levels, assures and maintains high levels of inventory accuracy, and monitors all levels of inventory to assure timely delivery of components and finished goods.
- The Materials function is also responsible for all back end customer supply chain activities including shipment and logistics planning, shipment coordination is the principal contact for all freight and third party logistics services, working closely with all internal entities to maximize shipments and deliveries to their final destination.
- The Materials position seeks to develop improved processes to streamline supply chain activities and is deeply involved in ERP systems development and execution and assures material BOM accuracy.
Education and Experience:
- Degree in Business Administration, Materials Management or equivalent experience in similar environments with a proven track record of success.
- Demonstrated competency in Production Planning, Purchasing, Inventory Management, Logistics and Distribution, MRP/ERP systems (ORACLE preferred) development and execution, international freight forwarding, customs and other regulations, tariffs, and ISO process development.
- Should have demonstrable experience in modern Lean Manufacturing principles as is affects Materials such as kanbans, pull systems, visible management techniques, vendor managed inventory, back flushing, mixed model production, cycle counting, point of use etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversees all aspects of Material management including Production Planning, Purchasing, Supplier selection and development, Inventory Management, Shipping, Logistics and 3rd party Warehouse and Transportation. Works closely with Sales, Marketing, Finance and key personnel in other sites to optimize all supply chain activities as it relates to products, parts and accessories. Is responsible for physical and financial inventory planning and accuracy and with the support of Engineering assures the accuracy of product structures, revisions and phase in/out activities as required. Assists the Plant Manager in the development of budgets, forecasts, production and logistics plans on a routine basis.
- Evaluates, but is not limited to, relevant information necessary to achieve both local and corporate objectives such as budgets, forecasts, new product development proposals, design engineering process and product recommendations, supplier cost, delivery and price performance, inputs, and monitors and adjusts to external regulatory requirements as needed.
- Consults with, but is not limited to, close contact with the Plant Manager regarding both strategic and tactical matters, Marketing on New Product Development, marketing positioning, branding and demand forecasting, Sales on demand forecasting, inventory levels, pricing and costing, Finance, both at corporate and at the Regional level for Financial guidance, reporting and budgeting, Design Engineering for product and process enhancement and new opportunities, and Quality and Service for ISO and TQM support and feedback on product and process performance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
- The position is a staff function with no direct reporting to this position.
- The Materials function reports directly to the Plant Manager, but interacts on a routine basis with internal facility functions such as Design Engineering, Plant Supervision, and Administrative staff and consults with and interfaces routinely with Sales and Marketing, Finance and other external personnel as necessary.
- The Materials function is also the primary contact to freight and logistic services and leads the Forecast to Plan, Inventory to Build, and Order to Fulfill business cycles for the operation.
Language Skills:
- Must be capable of communicating thoughts and ideas in a crisp concise manner both written and oral.
- Should be able to effectively communicate at all levels in and outside the organization.
Mathematical Skills:
- Basic maths skills.
- The ability to use formulas in Excel and the ability to create charts in Excel.
- The ability to organize and analyze data in a spreadsheet as required.
- Must be able to interpret data quickly and effectively, formulate broad mathematical relationships quickly and have the ability to relate the numbers to the business.
Reasoning Abilities:
- The position requires substantial experience and reasoning skills to be able to assess situations and opportunities accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Judgment and the ability to assess alternatives, risk and opportunity are critical to the position.
Physical Demands:
- There are no significant physical demands for the position; however, considerable time is spent on the factory floor.
Work Environment:
- The work environment is a factory office setting.
- Appropriate safety personal protective equipment may be required in some circumstances.
- The environment is fast paced, subject to change without advanced notice as factory dynamics change.
Salary:
£30000 - £35000
